Elderly Australians are hardly alone in their growing use of natural therapies. Research shows dietary supplements are now being used by up to 73 percent of the population in the United States; over 54 percent of elderly women and almost 34 percent of elderly men in Germany; more than 71 percent of pregnant women in Saudi Arabia; and 43 percent of young people in Malaysia. Similar usage patterns can be found in many other countries across the world and reflect a growing dissatisfaction with synthetic drug-based medicine. A Gallop poll published in 2019 found that the pharma business is now viewed as the worst industry in the United States.
