In a related development, Pfizer has agreed to settle more than 10,000 lawsuits accusing it of hiding the cancer risks of Zantac. While these agreements are said to cover cases in state courts across the United States, they don’t completely eliminate the firm’s exposure to claims.

Separately, Bloomberg News recently reported that Sanofi, another Zantac maker, had agreed to pay more than $100 million to resolve around 4,000 cases involving the drug. Over the years, Zantac has been owned by a variety of different pharma companies.

Meantime, claimants say British firm GlaxoSmithKline knew Zantac posed a serious risk but continued selling it regardless. The firm has already settled some of the cases brought against it before they could go to trial.
